Three things before you date again

I have been through two divorces, so I know the pull to either hide forever or rush straight back out. There is a gentler, wiser way to begin.

1. Take an inventory of your feelings.

Do not fixate on one big feeling like loneliness. Sit with the whole range of what you feel right now, name it honestly, then write a second list of the feelings you want to live in from here.

2. Decide how you want to feel in a relationship.

Skip the traditional list of what he should be on paper. Name how you want to feel instead: cherished, safe, respected, heard. You attract what you feel. Leading with the feeling helps you spot the wrong fit early and hold steady through the hard moments.

3. Practice forgiveness.

Forgive yourself first, then, in time, your former partner. Give yourself grace, acknowledge his humanity, and let the good memories back in slowly. This is the step most women skip, and the one that makes the next relationship possible.

The thread through all three is simple: self-love comes before the next love.

If you are in the middle of this, my dating-after-divorce support is here.
